Support for People with Physical Disabilities
Winsome Care Ltd provides specialist supported living services for people with physical disabilities across Liverpool and wider Northwest. We recognise that physical disability is not a defining characteristic but one aspect of a person's life, and that many people with physical disabilities are highly independent in many areas. Our approach focuses on removing barriers, promoting autonomy, and enabling people to do as much as possible for themselves, with support provided only where it is wanted and needed.
Our Approach
Our support for people with physical disabilities is developed in close collaboration with occupational therapists, physiotherapists, and other relevant professionals. We take the time to understand each person's abilities, preferences, and goals so that our support enhances their independence rather than replacing it. We comply fully with the Equality Act 2010 and proactively identify and eliminate barriers to inclusion. We advocate on behalf of the people we support to ensure they can access community facilities, transport, services, and opportunities on an equal basis with others.
What Our Support Includes
Assistive Technology
Support with the use of mobility aids, wheelchairs, hoists, adaptive equipment, and assistive technology to maximise independence
Personal Care
Sensitive, dignified personal care delivered in accordance with the person's preferences and at their pace
Community Access
Support to access community facilities, transport, leisure activities, education, and employment opportunities
Advocacy
Support and advocacy where the person experiences barriers to accessing services or exercising their rights
Health Coordination
Liaison with GPs, consultants, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated care
Home Adaptations
Working with housing providers to ensure properties are appropriately adapted with accessible bathrooms, widened doorways, ramp access, and specialist equipment
Daily Living Skills
Support to develop and maintain skills that promote independence in all areas of daily life
Staff Training and Competency
All staff supporting people with physical disabilities receive:
Comprehensive manual handling training
Equipment-specific competency assessments for hoists, wheelchairs, standing frames, and other aids
Training in promoting independence and autonomy
Pressure area care and skin integrity monitoring
Catheter care, stoma care, and PEG feeding (where applicable)
Health observation monitoring including blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and blood glucose
Understanding the social model of disability
Accessible, Adapted Environments
We work with our housing provider partners to ensure that all supported living properties used by people with physical disabilities are appropriately adapted. This includes accessible bathrooms with level-access showers, widened doorways for wheelchair access, ramp access, appropriate lighting, accessible kitchen facilities, and any specialist equipment required. The person's preferences and specific needs are always central to any adaptation decisions.
